St. Kilian’s Primary and Kindergarten cater for children aged 4 to 12 and cover classes Kindergarten [Junior Infants], Vorschule [Senior Infants] and then from 1st through to 6th class. St. Kilian’s believes that happy children learn and we endeavour to provide an atmosphere conducive to learning in both the academic and social fields. We follow the Primary School Curriculum with the exception, initially, of the Irish language.

Starting on the first day of school at the age of 4 St. Kilian’s pupils begin to learn German which is always taught by fluent German speakers. From the outset children have the advantage of hearing the German language each and every day of their school lives. Research has shown that bilingual children have a more comprehensive cognitive approach to intellectual matters as a second language system stimulates more brain areas. Later in 5th class the Irish language is introduced and in 6th class French is provided as an optional subject. Each Kindergarten and Vorschule class has a bilingual teacher who uses both German and English on a daily basis. Pupils are provided with intensive German classes two to three times a week. From the start of Primary school each class has a class teacher but classes are subject taught with a mix of primary and specialist teachers.

We have state-of-the-art facilities including interactive whiteboards throughout the school and a wealth of materials for all subjects especially Maths and Science. Our German and Irish roots are important to us and we celebrate both cultures throughout the school year. Our aim is for our students to be happy, confident Europeans with a love of learning.
