St. Kilian\u2018s ist sehr stolz auf unseren Sch\u00fcler der 8. Klasse, Piotr Stelmaszek, der k\u00fcrzlich auf der BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition den 3. Einzelpreis in der Junior Technology-Kategorie gewonnen hat – eine fantastische Leistung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Piotr entwarf ein neues Computer-Betriebssystem, weil er mit den aktuellen Optionen auf dem Markt unzufrieden war. Nachfolgend fasst er seine Erfahrung zusammen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I came across the idea of making a BT Young Scientist project when I needed an excuse to spend days in front of a computer when my mum wanted me to go outside for a walk or something (it worked). So I decided to make an Operating System.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My project is about making an operating system like Linux, Mac OS, or MS Windows, but better (if your definition of “better” is that it starts a few tenths of a second faster). My operating system can print a bunch of stuff onto the bleeding-edge 1960 RS232 port on the back of your IBM PC\u2026 That is also 64-bit. Very realistic, I know. And then shut down using a CPU emulator-only method. The whole thing is open-source on github<\/a> but I haven\u2019t decided on the license just yet.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see, I am truly passionate about that. Many times I wanted to give up. The hardest part was writing the project book (and now this article \ud83d\ude09 )! I am glad I brought it to an end though.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I really recommend pursuing your interests and participating in BT Young Scientist, as well as the programming (AIPO), linguistic (AILO), or mathematics olympiad. STEM is about so much fun (plus, remember, an excuse for stretching your screen-time allowance).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
