Yesterday morning, November 17th, St. Kilian’s welcomed Wesley College Dublin for an impressive debate in German language on the motion: “Schools that are exclusively for boys or girls should be replaced by co-educational schools” („Reine Mädchen- und Jungenschulen sollen abgeschafft und durch ko-edukative Schulen ersetzt werden“).
Both teams delivered a thoroughly researched and highly engaging debate, presenting strong arguments and well-chosen examples. The St. Kilian’s team—captained by Michael and including Trajan, Aoife and Jacob—argued in favour of replacing boys and girls only schools in Ireland, while the Wesley College team, led by Evelyn and including Hannah, Eva and Ella, presented a compelling opposition to the motion.
The entire debate was conducted in fluent German, showcasing the students’ outstanding linguistic abilities. After a dynamic exchange of arguments and rebuttal, adjudicators Mrs Canton (Mount Anville Secondary School) and Mr Morgan (lawyer and St. Kilian’s parent) awarded the win to St. Kilian’s by only a few points.
Congratulations to the German Debate Teams of 2025 on their excellent performances, and big thank you to our fantastic adjudicators, the organising teachers and time keepers, and the supporters from St. Kilian’s, from Wesley College and from Mount Anville Secondary School who joined us in Shamrock Hall for a great morning.
