Congratulations to Thibaut, our 12th Class Head Boy, on organising and hosting an insightful talk exploring the question: “Does social media affect voting?” Thibaut welcomed two distinguished guest speakers: Brian O’Donovan, Work and Technology Correspondent with RTÉ, and Cllr. Lesley Byrne, Social Democrats Councillor for Dublin City Council (South West Inner City).
The discussion explored a range of topics, including the influence of social media on gender stereotypes, its impact on young people’s decision-making, its role in political campaigning, and whether it contributes to political polarisation and extremism. It was a lively and engaging conversation, with students gaining valuable insights into the complex relationship between social media and modern democracy.
We extend our thanks to Mr O’Donovan and Cllr Byrne for their time and expertise. Well done to Thibaut and everyone involved in making this event a success!
