To mark UNESCO World Book Day 2026, the German department is once again delighted to be able to give every child in classes 4 and 5 their very own German book.
This year, the pupils can look forward to the graphic novel ‘Der fliegende Klassenscooter’ by Andreas Hüging and Angelika Niestrath, with illustrations by Timo Grubing. The book is being published as part of the reading promotion campaign ‘Ich schenk dir eine Geschichte’, that takes place in Germany around World Book Day and aims to get children excited about books and inspire a love for reading.
In keeping with this year’s book, we have also taken a playful approach to the story: as part of Active Schools Week, the children went on a treasure hunt to look for clues and to solve puzzles, allowing them to engage with the story in a creative way.
A big ‘Thank you’ to our partner bookshop Hansen & Kröger that has once again supported us providing the books for our pupils. Without this reliable help, this wonderful initiative would not be possible for us abroad.
We hope all the children enjoy their new book – and have lots of exciting reading moments with the flying class scooter!
