This year’s German Unity Day marked 35 years since the historic Reunification of Germany. Our students reflected on life during the Berlin Wall era, the challenges of escaping the DDR, and the significance of the fall of the Wall on November 9th, 1989. Our youngest children joined in the celebration by building and knocking down a giant “wall” with blocks in Kindergarten. Staff and teachers also enjoyed a special cake, accompanied by a heartfelt message from our Principal, Mrs Meier. A meaningful day of reflection, togetherness and celebration across the whole school.
Mrs Meier’s message:
Today we pause to remember and celebrate the Day of German Unity. On 3rd October in 1990, 35 years ago, Germany was officially reunited after decades of division. This day stands as a reminder of the courage, hope, and perseverance of countless people who longed for freedom, democracy, and unity.
For us, it is not only a moment to look back at history, but also an invitation to think about the meaning of togetherness today. Reunification teaches us that barriers—whether walls of stone or walls of misunderstanding—can be overcome when we work together with respect, openness, and trust.
As a school community, we too are “united” by shared learning, diversity, and cooperation. Let us use this occasion to strengthen our sense of belonging, to appreciate our differences, and to remember that unity is something we build every day—through kindness, dialogue, and mutual support.
May this day inspire us all to continue shaping a community at St. Kilian’s where everyone feels at home.
