For one unforgettable week, 35 Fifth Class students had the chance to take their German far beyond the classroom and experience the language in real everyday situations. From 17 to 24 May 2026, the group flew to Munich before continuing on to the Humboldt-Institut in Bad Schussenried, where a packed and exciting week of learning, activities and new experiences awaited them.
Each morning began with intensive German lessons, giving the students the opportunity to build their confidence and develop their language skills. But some of the most valuable learning happened outside the classroom. Whether they were buying something at the bakery or supermarket, ordering ice cream, or speaking to people during activities in town, the students used their German every day in practical and meaningful ways.
The afternoons and evenings were full of variety. The students explored the local area during a town rally, took part in German cooking classes where they baked apple strudel, enjoyed swimming in the indoor pool, and played a football match against a Turkish youth group that was also staying there for the week. In the evenings, there was time to relax, have fun and make memories — from a campfire with marshmallow roasting to a high-energy party disco evening.
Two of the biggest highlights were our visit to the climbing park and our full-day trip to Meersburg on Lake Constance. In Meersburg, the students first enjoyed a guided tour of a medieval castle before heading out to explore the town. Once again, they had to use their German in real-life situations, including speaking to passers-by as part of a trading challenge.
The trip was a great success. The students returned with stronger German skills, greater confidence and many wonderful memories. It was a week full of language, adventure, teamwork and fun — and a fantastic opportunity to experience German in action.
